John Riedl John Riedl is Professor of Computer Science at the University of Minnesota where he has been a faculty member since 1990. In 1992 Dr. Riedl co-founded the GroupLens project on collaborative information filtering, and has been co-directing it since. GroupLens seeks to develop an understanding of the engineering science of the social web, by developing principles that guide the development of effective large-scale collaboration tools. Recently, GroupLens Research has been exploring ways in which recommender systems can be used to study and enhance social structures on the Web. Dr. Riedl received his Bachelor degree in mathematics from The University of Notre Dame in 1983, his Master degree in computer science in 1985, and his Ph.D. in computer science in 1990 from Purdue University. He has been named ACM Fellow and IEEE Senior Member, and is founding co-editor-in-chief of the ACM Transactions on Interactive Intelligent Systems journal. He has co-authored Best Paper winners at the IUI, WikiSym (twice), CSCW, and Data Engineering conferences.
